The five ladies in question are Anna, Eva, Gladys, La La and Rose who had only two things in common when they met seven months ago, a green park bench and lives well-lived.
Over a period of several months the ladies meet on the park bench in Washington Square Park, New York.
Here they share fond and sometimes painful memories. They also share all the wit, wisdom and keen observations that ladies of a certain age possess and of course a good belly laugh now and again.
The story of their lives are laid bare for the audience to share too, all the arguments, raucous tales of living the high-life, but also their fears and pains. These tales are told with hilarity and poignancy in equal measure.
They are bound together by each other’s strengths, weaknesses and witticisms. Each one unknowingly preparing for the day they leave the bench, perhaps for the last time. As the journey unfolds it is these unseen bonds that ensure, at least for these fearless five, that the grim reaper is not so grim after all.
