Strong interest received for Community Managed Libraries

Fri 13 Oct 2017

Following the Community Managed Library (CML) briefings in September and the registration of interest deadline on Monday 9 October, Derby City Council has received twelve registrations of interest covering all ten of the proposed Community Managed Libraries.

Many individuals have also submitted a Volunteer Interest Form and others are still welcome. Any interested groups who have not yet registered their interest can still do so. Anyone who registers will be supported to submit a full Expression of Interest application by midday, Monday 4 December.

Councillor Amo Raju, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism at Derby City Council said, “It is very positive that local community groups and individuals have already expressed an interest in helping to run one or more libraries in Derby. I’d like to thank all the individuals and groups who have engaged with the process. The success of Community Managed Libraries depends on the support of local people who are passionate about delivering a sustainable library service and working closely with other members of their community to achieve a successful outcome. This positive response has confirmed my belief that there are a lot of people who are keen to support their library services in Derby and it is very pleasing that communities are committed to ensuring they thrive for many years to come”.

A range of financial support will be made available by Derby City Council to assist groups to run a CML. Further details about this will be available on the inderby.org.uk/runalibrary website in the following days.

A further CML briefing session is due to take place on Friday 20 October 12noon-2pm in the Joseph Wright Room at the Council House. This will allow anyone who was unable to attend the previous briefings to receive the information they require to consider submitting an application to help run Community Managed Libraries in Derby.
