4 to 16 year olds
Our Learn to Swim programme designed for 4 - 16 year olds builds on the Ducklings programme and will take your child on the journey to becoming a confident and competent swimmer. Our programme runs for 48 weeks in the year with a two week break in the summer and at Christmas, your child can join at any stage whether they're a complete beginner or want to develop their skills and technique further.
Our fully qualified swimming teachers follow the Swim England Learn to Swim programme, a world-leading syllabus that makes learning to swim a fun and safe way to enjoy being in and around water. Every individual can achieve their own goals, progress at their own pace and have fun and make friends along the way!
The Swim England programme keeps learners of all ages and abilities motivated throughout their swimming journey, gaining awards as they progress through the stages to complete the programme.
Learn to Swim stages 1-7
Stages 1-7 of the Swim England Learn to Swim Programme is designed to take non swimmers from their first splash to becoming confident and having fun in the water to being able to being able to swim 100m and have proficient stroke technique. Find out more about Stages 1-7 on the Swim England website here. You can also find a Parents guide to swimming lessons with plenty of hints and tips.
Learn to Swim stages 8-10
Once your child has completed Stages 1-7 they can then progress onto Stages 8-10. These stages are discipline-specific and at Queen's Leisure Centre we teach young people that want to learn what it takes to become a competitive swimmer, again following the Swim England programme.
Children that have completed stages 1-7 can also join our Rookie Lifeguard programme. Following the Royal Life Saving Society UK's programme, children will learn valuable survival, rescue and sports skills in a fun and engaging way. The programme gives children the confidence to help keep themselves, their friends and family safe in the water through a range of exciting activities leading to a series of awards. Find out more about the Rookie Lifeguard programme on the RLSS website.
