One Book
The book we have chosen is Let Sleeping Dragons Lie by Garth Nix and Sean Williams.
A funny fantasy triumph!
Odo and Eleanor are now officially knights, helped (and sometimes hindered) by their magical but rather difficult to control magical swords. However, if they thought life as a knight was going to be easy, they are wrong! Before they know it they and their talking swords join a bold quest to rescue a monarch, vanquish deadly beasts, confound a prophecy, and (if they are lucky) avoid stepping on the tail.
The Big Family Read is taking place from 1 Oct to 30 Nov. Throughout this time Derby Libraries will have multiple downloads of both the eBook and eAudiobook available online as well as paper copies at all libraries to borrow. Check our Library catalogue, visit your local library or download our BorrowBox App.
Please note: In order to comply with covid-19 requirement this is an online competition. Libraries cannot accept any hardcopy entries.
6 to 12 year-olds can enter our Big Family Read Online Short Story Competition.
We will be launching an online short story competition. The subject of the story (300-word limit) must focus on a Magic Sword.
Below are a few ideas to help you think about your story.
Where did your sword come from?
What would your super power be?
How would you use your magic sword as a positive force?
Did the super power make you happy?
Did the super power make you sad?
We encourage families to read the book together and actively support their child in writing their story. We are looking for creativity, imagination and originality.
The competition starts on Thursday 1 October2020 and closes on Sunday 10 January 2021.
