Back on track: The Velodrome Returns

Thu 30 Sep 2021

Finally, after much anticipation the Velodrome at Derby Arena opened again on 1st September 2021 to the public.

Are you planning on riding track with your own bike, has it been gathering dust in garage or shed?

With many months of not been used it might need some care and attention before returning to the Velodrome, especially the tyres.

A few simple checks will be worth doing:

  • Do the tyres still look good?
  • No cuts/cracks plenty of tread left?
  • If the tyres have been left flat has the tyre/tube perished?

If you are using clincher tyres it might be worth removing the tyres and checking the innertubes and rim tape for any problems. If using tubular tyres check the tread is not starting to come away from the casing and the glue has not dried out.

Also, you should be checking your shoe cleats are in good condition and not worn out, you do not want to be unclipping from your pedals when you are flying round track! A few minutes checking your bike and kit to make sure everything is in good working order will ensure you have an enjoyable session on the track keeping yourself and other riders safe.

If you are having any problems or would like some advice, our Cytech level 3 qualified bike Technician Dan can be contacted through the Arena if you need any assistance.

We look forward to seeing you on the track soon!

Sessions are bookable through the Derby Active App or ring the Arena on 01332 640011
