Information relating to Coronavirus
Please note that due to the pandemic and in line with the latest government advice, facilities may be closed and some events cancelled or postponed. Visit our news pages.
Until Sat 17 Apr, Riverside, Mickleover, Normanton and Alvaston Libraries are currently open for Click and Collect and for Internet access for essential tasks.
Derby Libraries are pleased to be able to welcome customers back into libraries from the week commencing Mon 19 Apr for browsing. We are currently putting the final preparations in place to enable as much use of library facilities as is safe and practical at this time.
Public PCs will be available on a self-service basis and you can enjoy sessions of up to 60 minutes per customer per day. You will no longer need to book a PC but please be aware that, to comply with Covid safety regulations, the number of PCs available will be limited and staff assistance will not be available. We will keep this under review and extend this service when it is safe and practical to do so.
The Home Library Service will continue to deliver books to people who cannot get to the library by themselves because of illness, infirmity or disability.
Derby Local Studies and Family History Library is currently closed to members of the public but is taking enquiries by phone, text and email. We are aiming for customers to be able to visit the Local Studies Library in person after Monday 21 June.
You can renew your books online or phone 01332 641700. The e-book service is available – look at our catalogue to make your choice.
For full details on current services, please visit our COVID-19 Libraries news page.
There are computers and free WiFi available for people to use for essential tasks at Normanton, Alvaston, Mickleover and Riverside Libraries. Public computer access is not available at Derby Local Studies and Family History Library.
Computers and WiFi are available to help you with essential tasks such as applying for jobs, claiming benefits, homework and essential printing if you don’t have access to these at home. You cannot book the computers for entertainment purposes.
Please note that:
While you are in the library, you must wear a face covering and observe social distancing of two metres. When you arrive, you will be asked to sanitise your hands and to provide your name and contact details for Test and Trace.
We are pleased to announce that Normanton, Riverside, Alvaston libraries will open their doors for browsing and borrowing from Monday 19 April, and Mickleover from Tuesday 20 April.
This means that the Click and Collect service will no longer be available but any books ordered before 19/20 April will still be available for collection.
Once normal borrowing resumes on 19 April (20 April for Mickleover), the hold charge will be re-instated. All books borrowed must be returned or renewed on or before the due backdate to avoid late fees. Pre-overdue notices will be sent to all customers for whom we have an email address, and we will continue to send overdue notices to all customers.
On arrival at the library, you will be asked for your details for NHS Test and Trace. You will be expected to wear a face-covering unless exempt, to sanitise your hands and to maintain social distancing.
