Derby Libraries are pleased to be able to welcome customers back into librariesOur staff will continue to wear face coverings and we would encourage our customers to do wear face coverings if they are able, to help protect others. Customers will be asked to check in for NHS Test and Trace purposes on arrival, and maintain social distancing.

Derby Local Studies and Family History Library will be welcoming customers back into the library from Thu 29 Jul in Riverside Chambers, Full Street.

Customers will be able to visit by pre-booking an appointment for either PC/microfilm use or to look at paper documents. The free online enquiry service that has been operating since last July will be wound down as the service refocuses on helping customers visiting the library.

Each appointment is for a maximum stay of two hours. You can book up to three appointments, up to 1 month in advance of your visit.

The Local Studies library is your place to research local and family history

We offer free access to Family History and Local Studies websites and email facilities.

It is easy to join the library. You just need to bring one piece of identification with you which includes your name and address.

Library app for iPhone users

Go to the App Store and search for Derby City Libraries. Download the app called DerbyLibraries to:

  • Search by barcode: Use your device’s camera to scan the barcode on a book or other item and search for available copies at Derby City Libraries.
  • Search the Derby City Libraries catalogue for items by title, author, subject, or general keyword and place holds on interesting items. 
  • Manage your account 
  • Find suggested reading - see what your friends have read and recommend with reading recommendations from Goodreads or check out the latest best-selling and award-winning titles.
