A: Only 1 spectator per swimmer will be permitted to help us keep you and our team safe.

Where absolutely necessary, an additional spectator from the same household may be permitted on discretion of the queue manager or staff member. This will be for childcare, accessibility or disability support during attending swimming lessons.

Where Pre-School Duckling or Adult lessons are taking place, no spectators are permitted, however if necessary, this may be permitted on discretion of the queue manager or staff member.

We are encouraging swimmers to do this to minimise the time spent in changing areas. Similarly, we are encouraging swimmers to shower at home after their swim, again to minimise the time spent in the changing areas after a swim.

However, changing facilities will still be available for swimmers post-swim for a change.

Sport court bookings

Following the announcement that Derby is moving to High (Tier 2) COVID alert level from Sat 31 Oct 2020, all participants in a booking must be living within the same household or are part of the booker's support bubble. There are exemptions for supervised activities for under-18s, and disability sport. Full details of the Government Tier system restrictions related to Covid – 19

Derby Arena Cycling

Following the announcement that Derby is moving to High (Tier 2) COVID alert level from Sat 31 Oct 2020, and acting on British Cycling advice, we have unfortunately had to take the decision to suspend group British Cycling sanctioned indoor cycling activities.

There are exemptions for supervised activities for under-18s and disability sport. We will be updating the cycling programme to offer some drop in sessions instead which will allow over 18s to ride individually on the track keeping 5m apart at all times. There will be no group riding in these sessions.

As per the government advice on travel restrictions for Very High (tier 3) areas, we ask that no one in Very High (tier 3) travels to Derby Arena to participate in track cycling.

Learn to Swim - Local COVID Alert Levels

It is essential we 'do the right thing for Derby' and keep our families and friends safe, here are a few questions regarding the local COVID alert levels and attending swimming lessons.

Q1: What does the new three tier system mean?

The government has introduced a three-tier system of restrictions designed to counter the steep rise in Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases.

Depending on the situation in the local area, each part of the country is allocated into one of these categories, each with their own set of restrictions:

  • Medium (Tier 1)
  • High (Tier 2)
  • Very High (Tier 3)

Q2: Are Swimming Pools allowed to stay open in all tiers?

It depends, pools are allowed to remain open in tier 1 and tier 2. Pools may be required to close in tier 3 areas but this will be a matter for our local area so could vary from location to location.

Q3: Does that mean I can still spectate my child’s lesson?

Medium (Tier 1): Yes, however, spectators must follow the ‘rule of six’.

High & Very High (Tier 2 & 3): Adults who are acting in a safeguarding/supervising capacity are permitted to spectate learn to swim sessions for children under the age of 8 only.

Spectators are strictly limited to 1 per swimmer in compliance with the above.

Q4: What about travelling between tiers to attend lessons?

People may travel into any tier area if it is necessary to enable disability sport, sport for educational purposes, or supervised sport and physical activity for under-18s to take place. This covers learn to swim sessions (for under 18s).

People in tier 1 and 2 should not travel into very high (tier 3) areas “to take part in physical activity”, e.g for a casual swim, unless it is necessary to enable individual exercise or to exercise for people from the same household or support bubble.

Similarly people living in tier 3 areas should not travel into tier 1 or 2 areas for a casual swim unless it is necessary to enable individual exercise or to exercise for people from the same household or support bubble.

Fri 16 Oct

Derby Arena Cycling - Tier 1 only

Following British Cycling and Sport England advice we have unfortunately had to take the decision to suspend sanctioned indoor activities in 'High' and 'Very high' areas with immediate effect. Anyone over 18 who lives in a Tier 2 or 3 area, are now unable to attend a track cycling session at Derby Arena.

Derby Arena will be contacting all attendees booked on sessions regarding the change.

Postcodes can change on a daily basis, please check your status on the day of your visit for an activity, prior to attending.

Mon 21 Sept

Test and Trace

From 24 Sep, we will be following the governments legal requirement by displaying in each facility a QR code for visitors who have not booked an activity to scan when visiting the buildings. Customers who have booked in advance will not be required, as we have a record of attendance.

Face covering and groups of 6

We ask that anyone visiting a leisure facility to wear a face covering when possible. This includes arriving for your activity and spectators. Once you arrive in the room where you activity is taking place the face covering can be removed.

From Monday 14 Sep, when meeting friends and family you do not live with (or have formed a support bubble with) you must not meet in a group of more than 6, indoors or outdoors. We can not accept casual bookings of more than six people for sporting activities, as this is informal sport.

The exception to this is:

  • elite sporting competition and training
  • organised sport or exercises classes or licensed outdoor physical activity

Our centres follow government and governing body guidance in the provision of activities and sessions, in-line with Covid safety requirements.

Fri 10 July 2020

Derby Arena infield activities

Currently there are no infield activities taking place at Derby Arena, as we have utilised the closure and part opening due to Covid 19 pandemic to re-prioritise plans to upgrade the infield floor. Works are well under way and we anticipated for the upgrade to be completed end of October.

The venue will continue to be guided by the government and national governing bodies for sport in its decision making process for activities and sport to return to the venue.

Indoor sports courts for badminton are available at Springwood Leisure Centre.

Fri 10 Jul
