Derby Parks’ Superhero Picnic is going virtual!
Mon 27 Jul 2020
We may have cancelled our annual Superhero Picnic in the Park due to Covid-19, but now we are going virtual! For this year’s event, instead of us all flocking to our local parks, we invite you to join Derby Parks online for a free, fun-filled day as we celebrate in true superhero style with our new Superhero Picnic at Home!
On Tuesday 28 July from 11am to 3pm, we will be sharing lots of activities, crafts and videos online for you to get involved with in your own home, not forgetting everyone’s favourite Superhero Picnic Lunch. So put on your best Superhero outfit, and prepare your tastiest sandwiches ready for a super day!
You can join in with other families online via our Facebook event, where the Derby Parks team will be commenting and interacting with you all throughout the day. Or if you'd like to watch the videos at a later date, all of them are available on our YouTube channel, complete with captions, or you can see them further down this page!

Crafts
We also have some great ideas to get you and your family feeling crafty for the event. You could do them during the day or after the event has finished - either way, we're sure you'll have a super time!
Superhero hand-prints
Get creative and make your favourite superhero – all you need is paper, some paint and your hand! Place your hand print on the paper and then add eyes, a superhero belt and any other accessories your superhero needs!
Garden Superheros
Get back to nature and make a superhero out of things you can find in your garden. Using sticks, stones, flowers and leaves, create a garden superhero!
Share your creations on social media and tag @DerbyParks so we can see them! We hope you have a super time with all these activities.
#MySuperhero Wall
For this year’s picnic, we also want to celebrate all of your heroes, so we want to know who your hero is. It could be your mum, dad, aunty or uncle, or maybe it’s your local postal workers, park rangers or refuse collectors – whoever it is, we want to celebrate the impact they have had in your life and say a huge thank you! Take a photo with them and, with their permission, share it with us on the @DerbyParks social media pages, using the hashtag #MySuperhero. Its not too late for you to share your pictures and see your 'in real life' hero on our superhero wall.
To share on Facebook, go to the @DerbyParks page (if you're on mobile, you will also need to select the "posts" tab) and share your photo using the hashtag #MySuperhero. Make sure your post is public so that we can see it
To share on Twitter, post your photo and tag @derby_parks and use the #MySuperhero hashtag. Your profile will need to be public for us to see it
To share on Instagram, upload your photo with the hashtag #MySuperhero and tag @_derbyparks. Your profile will need to be public for us to see it
Make sure to share your photos and why you've nominated them before the event on Tuesday 28 July to see them on the Superhero wall.
