Green light for Derby’s New Pool

Fri 22 Mar 2019

It’s full steam ahead for Derby’s new pool at Moorways. Derby City Council gave the green light to build a much larger leisure water pool as part of the new complex last month. A capital budget of £42 million has been approved to deliver and complete the whole project by late 2021.

Designed with families and children in mind, the new plans include a number of thrills and spills that will serve the city for decades to come. It will now include a play structure, beach area, two flumes, a wave generating ‘wow’ ball, play structure, multi-slide and a wave rider.

Delivering the additional features is expected to make the complex more attractive to families. The experience will be more exciting and thrilling, providing fun for families and children up to age 15.

Councillor Alan Grimadell, Cabinet Member of Leisure, Culture and Tourism: said,

“It’s a very exciting time for Derby. This investment will provide the City with a fantastic complex that will serve residents and visitors for decades to come. Our decision to go ahead with a much larger leisure water pool with more fun features for families and children is delivering what Derby residents want.”

The investment in the New Swimming Pool Complex will not only provide additional features but also increase the age range and capacity. The plans have been developed to give communities more opportunities in the City to have fun and enjoy leisure activities.

The complex at Moorways will offer a 50m pool, learner pool, café, soft play, sauna & steam, multi-use rooms, gym and studio. There will be a range of choices and activities for all ages and abilities.

It is anticipated that the project will be completed in late 2021, with a new planning application submitted this summer and construction beginning later this year.
