How we’re making Festive Derby easier to access

We’re gearing up for this year’s Festive Derby and panto spectacular. We believe it’s important to make our performances and attractions as accessible as possible.

Derby LIVE is again teaming up with Morgan Brind and the multi award-winning Little Wolf Entertainment to present Cinderella at Derby Arena from Fri 6 - Tue 31 Dec.

From relaxed, audio-described and captioned performances to a Changing Places toilet, we have measures in place to help as many people as possible are able to enjoy our panto extravaganza.

Our relaxed performance is specifically adapted for customers with disabilities and those on the autistic spectrum. Relaxed performances may also be more suitable for younger children. They have a less formal, more supportive atmosphere to reduce anxiety levels. The relaxed performance is still the same show but there are small changes to the sound levels and lighting.

A relaxed performance will take place on Fri 27 Dec at 4:30pm.

In a captioned performance, words appear on screens on either side of the stage at the same time as they are spoken - ideal for those who are deaf, hard of hearing, or if you'd just like to read along.

There are captioned performances on Mon 30 Dec at 11am and 3:30pm.

Audio-described performances are ideal for blind and partially sighted people. Audio description is a form of audio-visual translation, using natural pauses in dialogue or between critical sound elements to insert a narrative that translates the visual image into a sense form.

Free touch tours take place 75 minutes before the performance, with the chance to look closely at the set and costumes and often with a chance to meet some of the actors! This is free but should be booked in advance.

Audio-described performances take place on Sun 15 Dec at 12:30pm and Mon 30 Dec at 3:30pm.

British Sign Language interpreted performances feature a signer at the side of the stage (usually on the right) who signs the dialogue from the performance. When you book, please let Box Office know where you would like to sit directly in front of the interpreter or on the opposite side, looking across the stage/action.

BSL interpreted performances take place on: Fri 13 Dec at 10am; Sun 15 Dec at 12:30pm and Mon 30 Dec 3:30pm.

Wheelchair access and toilet facilities

Derby Arena is fully accessible, with lifts and ramps throughout the building.

We know that being able to access suitable facilities can be a huge barrier to families enjoying a trip out.  Derby Arena has unisex accessible toilets available throughout the Arena, plus a

Changing Places toilet. The Changing Places toilet provides enough space for people with disabilities and their carers, and equipment including a height-adjustable changing bench and a hoist.

People skate in hats and warm coats on an indoor ice rink

Festive Derby will see the Cathedral Quarter Ice Rink return to the Market Place. The undercover rink will be accessible for people who use a wheelchair.

Adults and children of all abilities are welcome to take to the ice, while spectators can join in the fun by relaxing amongst the twinkling lights and listening to the festive playlist.

Free of charge sit-on and standing skate aids will be free to borrow for those who’d like more support while on the ice. They’re available on a first-come, first-served basis.

There will also be dedicated toddler sessions at the rink, for those with young children who’d prefer to visit at a quieter time.

You can find all the access details for Cinderella on the Derby LIVE website, where you can also book your tickets.
