Library support for families affected by school fires

Tall shelves filled with library books.

Tue 20 Oct 2020

Derby Libraries team would like to express our sympathy to all parents, carers, teachers, and pupils affected by the recent fires at Ravensdale Infant School, and St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy, Derby.

Mickleover Library and Riverside Library are both open and ready to support our school communities. Both libraries have a diverse range of books available, including many new children’s titles, a public PC service with up to 30 minutes access, plus a printing service.

See our catalogue for our full range of children’s titles.

We have excellent safety measures in place in response to Covid-19 to keep staff and customers safe, although this does mean there is reduced access to the libraries and public PCs. If you are planning on visiting the library please contact the team who will be happy to talk through our safety measures and how we can support your visit.

If you and your child are already members of Derby Libraries please bring your library cards with you. If you are not member it’s easy to join -  just fill in our form, and bring some ID to the library.

We also have a range of eBooks and eAudiobooks available for our members. With many titles, from new releases to classic stories, our eBooks are a fantastic way to access hundreds of titles, and our eAudiobooks are a great way to listen, learn, and relax together.

We have also launched a Big Family Read, a chance to rediscover the joy of reading together. Our book is a funny fantasy story full of adventure (and a dragon!). It’s free to join in and the book is available in both libraries and as an eBook and eAudiobook. To keep young people reading and creating we have also launched a story competition open to all children aged 6 and above. A chance for children to have a go at writing their own adventure - and win a prize!
