Tue 11 Jul 2017
Plot holders can ‘carry on at their convenience’ as Lottery funding provides 2 accessible composting toilet units and help toward Centenary Celebrations.
Ashbourne Road District Allotment Association have much to celebrate after receiving funding from the National Lottery to install two fully accessible composting toilet units; as well as money to help with their Centenary Celebrations.
The Allotments based in Derby are this year celebrating 100 years of providing growing space to local people. The Celebration Event on Sunday 3rd September will officially see the opening of several new facilities to the Mackworth Road site, including the two Lottery funded toilets, a new allotment shop funded by the association itself and the ‘Centenary plot’, an accessible plot developed with support from local businesses.
Allotment Secretary, Chris Dawson says “we are thrilled to be able to celebrate 100 years of allotment gardening at Ashbourne Road District Allotments. The news that we have received funding from the National Lottery to install 2 accessible composting toilet units, as well as money to help towards our event in September is just wonderful. The installation of toilets will make it easier for our members to spend time on their plots and will make our site more appealing to groups and individuals considering taking up allotment gardening. We hope developments such as these will help towards making Ashbourne Road District Allotments sustainable for the next 100 years!”
