National Storytelling Week

Storytelling Week

Mon 29 Jan 2018

This week is National Storytelling Week, where we celebrate the tradition of storytelling!

Since storytelling is such a huge part of our cultural tradition, we're passionate about continuing this tradition on to future generations.

Derby Libraries has plenty of clubs and activities to help children to continue this tradition in reading. Why not use this week as an excuse to try something new out at Derby Libraries?

Cradle Clubs are free weekly sessions for parents and carers with babies to meet socially and have fun with their little ones.

They offer a time to play, have fun, share stories, sing and laugh together. Staff will also provide the opportunity to hear and take part in stories, music, songs and rhymes.

Rhymetimes are free, half hour sessions of music and rhymes. Rhymes and songs are a great way of helping your child acquire good language skills and can really help with their future learning.

Bookstart is a national programme that encourages all parents and carers to enjoy books with their children from as early an age as ‌possible. It aims to provide free book packs to every child in the UK.

The tradition of storytelling has come a long way since the days of the oral tradition, and now children will be more familiar with the e-book than the traditional paper book. Find out more about our eLibrary here.

If you like just a good old fashioned read along with your child then why not find your local library here and take them along this week?
