Outdoor Theatre & Cinema Season returns!

This summer the popular outdoor theatre and cinema will return to Markeaton Park Craft Village.

Hosted by Markeaton Park and Derby LIVE, events will run from Wednesday 14 June – Saturday 5 August.

There will be a number of performances and screenings taking place throughout this period, including the return of the hilarious Oddsocks Productions bringing Shakespeare to life with Romeo and Juliet in June, as well as Macbeth in July. Following on from last year’s popular screenings the very special outdoor cinematic experience returns with classic films Grease and Mamma Mia!. There will also be theatrical performances from local theatre companies Babbling Vagabonds and Big Adventures with their new community production.

The outdoor theatre and cinema season will provide visitors the opportunity for a day out in the picturesque park followed by some of the best entertainment Derby has to offer. Markeaton Park has a range of activities to enjoy including footgolf, Mundy Play Centre, park walks, the Adventure Hub and Craft Village with a variety of crafting shops to explore.

To complete the experience the Orangery Café are offering an exclusive array of fresh food packages to be enjoyed. With charming scenery, fun activities, interesting stores, stunning films and shows and delicious food, the outdoor theatre and cinema season is certain to be a great day out for all.

The season will be kicked off by local favourites Oddsocks Productions as they once again bring a double-bill of family-friendly Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet will take to the stage from Wednesday 14 – Friday 16 June, you can book your tickets now on our website.

The Oddsocks will continue to impose a hearty dose of inimitable comedy six weeks later as they return with Macbeth from Wednesday 26 – Thursday 27 July, tickets are available here.

Bringing more theatre to the season on Friday 23 – Sunday 25 June, in association with Derby LIVE and Unite the Union, are Big Adventures Theatre Company with their new community play, The Last Revolution. The season’s family-friendly offerings also continue with the hugely popular Babbling Vagabonds and A Wild Walk on Saturday 29 – Sunday 30 July, an exciting and interactive theatrical walk through the park for young children and their families. Returning for its second year this summer viewers can once again expect a truly unique cinematic experience from outdoor cinema at Markeaton Park Craft Village. The theatrical phenomenon Mamma Mia brings all of ABBA’s top hits to the big screen once again on Friday 4 August, tickets are avilable here.
