Riverside Library Performs Well Since Opening

Wed 19 Dec 2018

The new Riverside Library opened its doors to its first readers in July this year and hasn’t looked back since.

Housed within the Council House, the Riverside Library is a light, spacious, well-equipped area with a range of books, adult and children’s areas, as well as modern PC and web facilities.

The Riverside Library specialises in providing resources on culture, literature and art as well as digital access and public support. In August this year, a total of 4,898 30-minute computer sessions were clocked-up; increasing by 203 sessions compared with the Central Library in August 2017.

In July and August this year there was a 35% increase in the lending of Children’s books compared with the year before. Adult books borrowed in this time period increased by 10% upon the year prior.

Cllr Alan Grimadell, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, explains:
“Relocating the Derby City library service from the Central Library to the Council House has proved a roaring success. With memberships increasing by 43% in July and August this year compared with the Central Library in the year previous, the future looks bright for the Riverside.

“The people of Derby seem to have embraced the new location and we’ll continue to work to offer a diverse range of services which complement the library provision. The beauty of the Riverside Library means the space is adaptable and welcoming. People certainly keep visiting.”

The Riverside Library is located on the ground floor of the Council House and is open Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm and Saturday 9.00am to 1.00pm.
