Share a good read with the eLibrary

Mon 22 Feb 2021

A good book is even better if it’s shared. Everyone from film stars to royalty are joining reading groups and in January, the Duchess of Cornwall announced the launch of her own online ‘Reading Room’.

Reading and books offer escapism, information and inspiration. Derby Libraries’ eLibrary has a fantastic collection of titles available to support book clubs and reading groups. Pick a book to read with your reading group or with your family and friends!

If you would like to discuss your latest reads why not join the Derby Libraries Reading Group on Facebook? The group is open to all and is a friendly informal space for people to read and chat about books. Members of the group read a variety of styles from poetry to thrillers and auto-biographies. Recent books have included:

29 Seconds’ by T.M. Logan

Heads You Win’ by Jeffrey Archer

The Last Family in England’ by Matt Haig

The Wreck’ by Meg Keneally

There is also a collection of print books available for reading groups.

Becoming a library member gives you full access to our eLibrary, where you can borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks, and read electronic versions of newspapers and magazines, all for free using apps that you can download to your device.

The Borrowbox app allows you to borrow eBooks and eAudioBooks for free. Some of the new and popular titles on the app include:

Bridgerton The Duke and I by Julia Quinn

The Midnight Library’ by Matt Haig

‘Girl A’ by Abigail Dean

The City of Tears’ by Kate Mosse

A new platform for our eMagazines will be put in place very soon. The new app, called Libby, will give members the same access to eMagazines that they have always enjoyed, but with hundreds more titles to choose from – and you can download as many as you like.

Derby Libraries’ eReference library provides access to online resources such as news, general knowledge, academic research, links to websites to help with school homework, provide ideas about new books to read, and much more.

During current restrictions Derby Libraries are offering a Click and Collect service and PC access from our four community libraries at Riverside, Alvaston, Mickleover and Normanton. Members can still reserve books using the online library catalogue.
