The Great Bilberry Bumblebee Hunt
Tue 13 Jul 2021
We had a buzzing day at Markeaton Park on Saturday 12th June, officially launching the new permanent bumblebee trail with a one-off event – The Great Bilberry Bumblebee Hunt.
The trail posts have been carved by local artist Anthony Hammond – with the trail created by staff and volunteers from the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.
Over the day over 200 people in 50 groups (mostly familis) were guided around the trail by Bumblebee Conservation Trust local volunteers - solving puzzles, doing bumblebee activities and searching for the hidden Bilberry bumblebee!
At the end of the trail there was a bumblebee box to take home with activities and information all about bumblebees – and simple ideas of ways to help them.
The whole day was free as both the event and the trail have been supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The event was organised and run by Bumblebee Conservation Trust’s Pollinating the Peak project, which works in Derbyshire and the Peak District to raise awareness of the beauty and importance of bumblebees.
