We have plenty of thrilling talks in Derby this summer at the Guildhall Theatre, as part of Derby Book Festival. From broadcasters, to cyclists, to Harry Potter fans, we have talks for every interest this summer.

On Saturday 2 June the legendary broadcaster and foreign correspondent Andy Kershaw will be presenting his one-man show The Adventures of Andy Kershaw. The two-hour audio-visual presentation by Kershaw will treat you to recollections from his life spent on the front lines of rock & roll, and on the front lines of some of the world’s most extreme and dangerous countries. 

If you're a fan of the Harry Potter books then enjoy listening to plenty of fun facts with Fleurble Laffalot on Saturday 2 June at 11am and 2pm. This interactive talk will encourage you to take part in some of the key elements of life at Hogwarts including the Sorting Ceremony, Care of Magical Creatures, spells and potions. This talk is bound to be great fun for anyone who has ever wanted to explore the magic world of the Harry Potter books. 

If you are eager to learn then don't miss out on world renowned scientist and TV presenter Professor Robert Winston’s exciting, illustrated talk on how recent research highlights the value of learning. On Tuesday 5 June at 7pm Professor Winston will be treating you to a compelling talk bringing complex issues to life with his usual infectious enthusiasm and energy. 

For adventure enthusiasts world record breaker Mark Beaumont is the ideal speaker at the Derby Book Festival. Having smashed the circumnavigation cycling World Record twice during his career, Beaumont now holds the 18,000 mile title in a time of 78 days and 14 hours. His epic documentaries took viewers to over 100 countries, and now you can hear his adventures for yourself. 

International bestseller and prominent feminist Germaine Greer will be bringing her talk Women for Life on Earth to the Guildhall Theatre on Friday 8 June at 7:30pm. Greer will be presenting you with her arguments for how if the planet is to survive and humans to continue to inhabit it, the female energy must be released.
