Mon 19 Nov 2018
American track cyclist and Individual World Record holder Ashton Lambie has been welcomed to Derby by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Frank Harwood.
At the event it was also announced that the world record breaking cyclist is joining the Derby Arena based HUUB Wattbike team.
The Deputy Mayor presented Royal Crown Derby Ram gifts to the HUUB Wattbike team to celebrate their silver medal success at the recent Canadian round of the UCI World Cup and to wish them luck for the rest of the season.
In a matter of two years, Ashton Lambie has gone from riding gravel in Kansas to setting a new world record on the track at Pan-American Championships. He rode a time of 4:07.25 in the 4km individual pursuit in Aguascalientes, Mexico.
Ashton has now joined the independent British UCI track team, Huub Wattbike, that started as four ambitious riders from Derby with the desire to compete on the world stage.
After a breakthrough season where they won World Championships, a World Cup, Commonwealth Games medals and National Titles, they are back, bigger and more ambitious than ever. Renowned for their innovative techniques and pragmatic approach, Huub Wattbike aim to go fast and further establish themselves at the top of world cycling.
Since relocating collectively to Derby from their homes across the UK to specifically to train at Derby Arena, they have made an indelible mark on the sport in what has been hailed a ‘David and Goliath’ story.
The HUUB Wattbike Team is supported by a number of businesses and organisations including Derby City Council; with access to the Derby Arena, Derbyshire Institute of Sport, the University of Derby, Derby College, Bowmer & Kirkland, Century Mobile and Invictus Communications.
