Drowning Prevention Week for 2018
Wed 6 Jun 2018
The 15 - 25 June is Drowning Prevention Week which aims to reduce the number of drowning and near-drowning incidents that occur in the UK every year.
Throughout this week the Royal Life Saving Society UK, in partnership with the RNLI and Swim England will be showing people how to be safe and have fun near water.
- Drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental death in children in the UK
- Over 700 people drown in the UK and Ireland every year - equivalent to one person drowning every 20 hours
- Hundreds more have near-drowning experiences, sometimes suffereing life-changing injuries
At Derby Active we think it's important that every child knows how to swim, to stay safe around water. This is why we run our Learn to Swim programme, learn more about our Learn to Swim programme here and have a look at the RLSS UK website for more tips on water safety.
