Proposals to build a larger leisure water as part of the New Swimming Pool Complex at Moorways have been backed by some of Britain’s top swimmers.

In a letter of support sent to Derby City Council, Mel Marshall Lead Coach at British Swimming, said:

“I was thrilled to learn that there may be an additional leisure water facility added to the build on Moorways.”

The new plans include increasing the leisure water by two thirds. It will now include a play structure, beach area, two flumes, a wave generating ‘wow’ ball, play structure, multi-slide and a wave rider.

Mel went on to say:

“Swimming is an integral part of the heart of Derby, the City has produced over the years an Olympic Champion and 6 Olympians. No mean feat!”

“However where did these big dreams begin? They began with the opportunity to participate, learn and develop through sport.”

“Myself Adam Peaty (Olympic Champion) Sarah Vasey (Commonwealth Champion) would like to express our sincerest support for any aquatic mission.”

It is expected that providing the additional features will make the complex more attractive to families. The experience will be more exciting and thrilling. Providing fun for families and children aged up to 15.

Derby’s New Swimming Pool Complex will offer a 50m pool, learner pool, café, soft play, sauna & steam, treatment rooms, multi-use rooms, gym and studio.
