Olympic Champions signed up to race for national titles at Derby Arena

Multiple Olympic champions are signed up to compete at Derby Arena this October for two national track cycling titles.

Laura Kenny CBE, Katie Archibald MBE and Elinor Barker MBE have signed up to compete for the National Madison title on Saturday 13 October and the National Omnium title on Sunday 14 October.

Councillor Alan Grimadell, Cabinet Member for Leisure Culture and Tourism, said: “It’s fantastic to have such inspirational athletes come to Derby and compete for national titles. Growing the event to cover two national titles over a single weekend will be a major achievement for the City.”

Derby is set for an epic battle between champions to see who will be crowned the Nation’s best. The weekend event promises to be an exciting day of racing showcasing the best regional and national riders.

This fast-paced track cycling competition is held under British Cycling and UCI rules. The Madison race is fast paced event where teams of two riders hand sling each other into the action and contest sprint points and try to gain laps. The Omnium will consist of four events with separate competitions for male and female riders. The winner of the Omnium will be the rider with the highest total of points, following the thrilling Scratch, Tempo, Elimination and the Points race final.

Derby Arena is hosting the HSBC UK National Madison and Omnium Championships on Saturday 13 and 14 October 2018 with doors opening from 12.00am on Saturday and 10.30am on Sunday.
