Our half-term top activities for families

Thu 27 May 2021

Half term is just around the corner, so we’ve pulled together our top indoor and outdoor activities for families!

Derby Ram Trail – From today (27 May), Derby Museums, in partnership with Wild in Art are bringing a flock of 30 colourful and unique 5ft rams on a trail around the beautiful city centre. If you’re too excited to wait for the trail to start, you can design your own Ram!

Derby Market Place – Once you’ve worked up an appetite completing the Ram Trail, make sure you’ve got a table booked at Derby Market Place so you can sample some of the excellent food and drink from local bars, cafes and restaurants across Derby. You can click and collect or have your meal delivered directly to your table!

Museum of Making – After a multi-million-pound makeover, the Silk Mill will reopen its doors as the Museum of Making on Friday 21 May. Entry is free but make sure you book a slot to visit and avoid being disappointed. But that’s not all, don’t forget Derby Museums also have their Museum and Art Gallery on the Wardwick.

Derby Book Festival – Millions of us rediscovered our love of reading over the last year and what better way to celebrate all that literary love than by getting involved with the Derby Book Festival! There are over 60 events taking place across the city and at Derby's parks between Thursday 27 May and Saturday 5 June and tickets for all events are on sale now. There’s something for everyone!

Get the swimming costumes and trunks out! Atlantis Splash Run is back at Queen’s Leisure centre. Make it a family competition to see who can complete the run of obstacles and slides the fastest. It’s totally free, just make a booking with Derby Active.

Get outdoors and explore nature in Derby. Did you know there are over 375 parks and open spaces in Derby for you and the family to explore? During May, some areas of our parks haven’t been mown to encourage more flowers to bloom and insects to thrive. See how many species you can spot and send us your snaps! You can even get involved with No Mow May at home.

If you don’t fancy heading out of the house, there’s plenty to get involved with at home as well! You could make a book with Derby Museums or enjoy Rhyme Time with the Derby Libraries team. Rhymetime is yet to start but there are some online videos you can enjoy.
