This year marks a milestone for Derby’s public library service, and we are inviting you to celebrate our 150th year with us. Throughout 2021 we have several events lined up, including a writing competition and a local pub quiz.
The team at the Local Studies Library are currently digging through the archives and have confirmed the town’s first free public library was officially opened by the Mayor on the 12th of October 1871.
Follow us on Derby Libraries Facebook and Derby Libraries Twitter, where we will be sharing more highlights from our long history and the important role libraries continue to play, providing free access for all to literacy, informal learning and reading for pleasure.
