Mundy Play Centre at Markeaton Park

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) updates - Following the Government’s change in guidance, visitors will be able to make more use of Derby’s parks and open spaces from Wednesday 13 May.

The Orangery at Markeaton Park Craft Village and The Waterside Café at Alvaston Park are opening for takeaway Mon to Fri 10am to 4pm, and Weekends 10am to 5pm.

The popular Mundy Play Centre on Markeaton Park has lots of activities for everyone to enjoy. The family-friendly play area is dog-free, has level pathways and provides plenty of free facilities, along with a number of seasonal pay and play activities. including the brand new mini golf. There are lots of places to sit, rest and to have picnics around the centre.

The play area is staffed by Park Rangers every weekend and all school holidays, providing a safe and secure play area.

The Mundy Play Centre's free play facilities are open 365 days a year.

Parking is available close by at the Mundy Play Centre car park, or you can use the main car park and walk to the play centre. Cash payment or online using MiPermit - find out more about cashless parking here.

Free play facilities

Paddling pool

A free way for children to make a splash in the summer with 3 fountains for extra fun, bring a towel and a picnic and play all day. The paddling pool is open every day from Spring bank holiday at the end of May until the end of the summer holidays. The pool is 0.7m deep near the fountains. Please ensure children are supervised at all times.

Play areas

The play areas provide fun eq‌uipment for children to enjoy, up to twelve years old. There is a dedicated toddler area with swings, a slide and climbing equipment. For older children there are large swings, slides and a spider net. The Adventure Galley pirate ship provides an inclusive and accessible play unit suitable for disabled children.

Just outside of the play area is a wheeled sports park with a number of jumps and grind bars suitable for BMX bikes, skateboards and scooters.

Pay and Play

Pay and play activities are open 10.30am - 4.30pm every weekend, Bank Holiday and daily during school holidays (weather permitting). Cash payment only.

Mini Golf

Brand new for 2019, we've got two 9-hole courses with challenging features such as ramps, bends, slopes and bumps, the course has been designed to be fun for all the family – especially those who like a little healthy competition! The course is wheelchair accessible. 

Bouncy Castles

There are two inflatable bouncy castles. Suitable for children under 12 years old.

Car and Bike Track 

A chance to drive a small electric car around the circular track. Suitable for ages four to 12 years old.  


Take out a canoe on what was the old paddling pool and is now a mini lake! Suitable for children between six and 13 years old.

Donkey Rides

Children can go for a donkey ride around the special sanded enclosure. For children under 12 years old.

Pitch and Putt / Footgolf

Try your skill at our nine hole Pitch and Putt course, or try the new sport of Footgolf! Open from  13 Apr - 4 Nov, from 10.30am on weekends, Bank Holidays and daily during school holidays (weather permitting).

Tennis Courts

There are two hard surface tennis courts available to book for 1 hour sessions. The courts can be booked online at where a code is provided to access the gate.  Visit the website for opening times, prices and availability.
