Derby Parks’ virtual picnic was a super success
Wed 19 Aug 2020
This year, Derby Parks’ annual Superhero Picnic went virtual as a way of bringing our audiences all the fun of the much loved super picnic from the safety of their homes. On Tuesday 28 July, lots of you flocked to your computers and mobiles, instead of to the park, to join the Superhero Picnic at Home on Facebook and YouTube for a fun-filled day of videos, activities and, of course, a picnic lunch.
From 11am-3pm, over 300 people on the Facebook event and nearly 700 visitors to our webpage were shown a range of videos from our event partners, starting with a superhero themed drumming workshop from Rockin’ Robins, through to the final video of the day, Superhero Bingo with Mr Parkie. It was great to see so many people taking part at home and sharing their superhero photos with us and interacting with the Derby Parks team on the day. Many of you also downloaded the activity sheets available on our website, both on the day and in advance of the event.
It is thanks to our many partners that we were able to keep this year’s event going. We received brilliant video content from Rockin’ Robins, Sporting Body Ltd, Jumping Clay, Derby Active, Derbyshire Wildlife Trusts, and Derby Homes, plus some excellent activity sheets to share for download from Write Print Create, Move More, Derby Recycles, and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service. Each of this year’s partners rose to the challenge to adapt and create something new to ensure that we could deliver the Superhero Picnic event this year in a new and exciting way.
If you missed the fun on Tuesday 28 July, don’t worry, all of the activities from the event day are still available on our Superhero webpage and on the InDerby YouTube channel, so you can have your own Superhero day whenever you want! Whether you want to get active or a little bit creative, or just have some fun, there is something for everyone! So, it’s not too late to put on your own superhero costume and have a super picnic yourself!
