This new partnership marks a big step forward in securing the long term future of the Concert. It is a part of the Council’s 50 Pledges to take Derby forwards and a new approach to funding cultural events. So far it has seen success by delivering the Cathedral Quarter 3aaa Christmas Ice Rink on a multi-year deal.
Paul Robinson, Chief Executive of Derby City Council, said:
“Last month Derby City Council pledged to deliver a programme of affordable events, including The Darley Park Concert and St George’s Day. We are very pleased that by working with Hannell’s Estate Agents and our other supporters that we are delivering on this pledge.”
Michael Brain, Managing Director of Hannell’s, said:
“Hannells are delighted to be able to be involved this year, in bringing back The Hannells Darley Park Concert. The concert has been one of the most popular cultural events in the calendar for over 20 years, and all our co-sponsors, Flint Bishop Solicitors, HUUB, Mortgage Advice Bureau, PKF Cooper Parry, Specsavers and Stratstone BMW Derby all had no hesitation in coming forward and sponsoring this event alongside Hannells. We are all Derby-based companies and all share the same ethos of giving back to the communities we serve and live in. This year is the 40th anniversary of Derby becoming a city, and we are excited at being able to be bringing this event back to the people of Derby. Our involvement has meant that we are now able to offer a low entrance fee for those attending and because of the celebrations of this our 40th year as a city, I’m sure the event will be even more spectacular than ever before.”
“Myself and Alison Brain from Hannells and all the other sponsors, feel it is the right time to bring this event back. We hope that we can be involved with this event for future years to come.”

Prokofiev: Montagues and Capulets from Romeo and Juliet (2015)
Steiner: Lara’s theme - Gone with the Wind (2008)
1.Strauss: Thunder and Lightning Polka(1993) To be honest we don’t think we had a theme for 1993's concert. This is just a piece we all love!
2.Steiner: Lara’s Theme - Doctor Zhivago(2008) In 2008 we celebrated 1908. David Lean, Director of Doctor Zhivago was born in 1908.
3.Glinka: Russlan and Ludmilla Overture(2015) In 2015 we celebrated couples made famous in music
4.Dvorak: Slavonic Dance Op.46 No.8(2014) 2014 marked the 175th anniversary of train industry in Derby. Dvorak was a great train spotter!
5.Coates: Knightsbridge March (In town tonight theme)(2007) There was an English theme threaded through the programme in 2007. Eric Coates is a local composer born in Hucknell.
6.Botsford: Black and White Rag (Pot Black Theme)(2010) 2010 was the year we marked several local celebrities from the years gone by. Joe Davis World Champion snooker player many times over, was born in the mining village of Whitwell in Derbyshire on April 15th 1901.
7.Walton: Spitfire Prelude & Fugue(2008) Another centenary celebration link. 1908 was when Rolls-Royce opened its factory in the City. Of course the famous Merlin engine that powered the Spitfire was made here in Derby.
8.Gershwin: Strike Up the Band - Overture(2012) The Olympic year saw a theme of celebration. Love conquers all in this comedy about a cheese war with Switzerland!

10.Goodwin: 633 Squadron(2006) Celebrating Derby we included Rolls-Royce and the company’s famous Merlin engine. The RAF did not form a unit called "633 Squadron" during the Second World War. However, there was a 613 Squadron, equipped with Mosquito aircraft.
