Derby City Council’s parks team are delighted to announce they have made it into the Trip Advisor’s Hall of Fame. The accolade comes off the back of a successful year for the park, having recently received a Green Flag Award and being nominated for the Fields in Trust UK’s Best Park 2019 award.

As Derby’s most visited park, Markeaton attracts thousands of visitors each year who enjoy the wide variety of activities on offer.

To achieve Trip Advisor Hall of Fame status, the park had to earn a Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence every year for the past five years.

More than just an open space, the park is home to the Mundy Play Centre which is popular amongst families and in April this year welcomed a brand new wheelchair-accessible mini golf course. The park is also home to the sports pavilion which houses tennis courts, cricket, footgolf, pitch and putt and the new disc golf course.

All year round, Markeaton Park has events for everyone, with this summer being no different when the craft village was home to Outdoor Theatre and Cinema, Superhero Picnics and the Classic Car Show. December will also welcome the return of Family Festivities (Sat 30 Nov – Sun 1 Dec) which will include elf and reindeer trails, a craft fair, music and much more.

Councillor Robin Wood, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism said:

“Markeaton Park has always been regarded as a destination as well as a glorious park. The park has had a number of investments in recent years, most recently the opening of the mini and disc golf courses and previously having benefited from Heritage Lottery Funding for the Craft Village.

“It is great to hear that the public enjoy visiting the park enough to leave so many positive reviews on Trip Advisor that it has entered the Hall of Fame.”

To further the park’s offering to the people of Derby, the park is one of five in the city which has a Move More Trail. New for 2019, these trails are for anybody to get out and enjoy the parks in any way they see fit and provide a platform for citizens and visitors to explore the green open space. Details of the routes and trails can be found at the start point at each park. The scheme, which has been developed by Derby City Council in Conjunction with Peak Running, received partial funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, allowed for a stand out sculpture, designed and made by Andrew McCallum at Hammer Head Forge at Markeaton Park.

Markeaton Park will be aiming to achieve another year of excellence to continue their run of positive feedback on Trip Advisor.
