Spend an evening with the stars at Alvaston Park
Mon 14 Feb 2022
A heavenly evening of stargazing at Alvaston Park on Saturday 19 February will make a welcome return and the most of the winter skies at the darkest time of year.
Activities at the free event include the chance to explore the wonders of the night sky through one of Derby and District Astronomical Society’s telescopes and a star walk led by Beyond the Pencil, who bring science, arts and creativity together.
Visitors can also listen to starry stories, create some astronomy-themed crafts, watch the illuminated model Alvaston Pirate Boats on the lake and much more. The Waterside Café will also be open for refreshments including hot dogs and lovely warm soap and a roll
Katie Smith, Alvaston Park Friends said; “2022 marks the 12th year of Stargazing on Alvaston Park, and it’s great to be back under the stars this January and out in the open air. There are lots of wonders to explore in the night sky, so wrap up warm and come along and join in the fun”
The event is a partnership between Derby City Council’s Parks Team and Alvaston Park Friends. It runs from 6pm to 9pm and all activities will be outside, so visitors are advised to wrap up warm, wear appropriate footwear for outdoors and bring a torch.
The event managed in line with Government COVID-19 guidance. For further details on Covid guidance when visiting our Parks, please visit: Health and Safety - what to expect when you visit our events on Parks (inderby.org.uk)
