Summer Outdoor Cinema tickets on sale
Tue 11 Feb 2020
The films chosen for this year’s Summer Outdoor Theatre and Cinema Season at Markeaton Park Craft Village have a distinctly musical flavour. Tickets are now on sale from Derby LIVE and early booking is advised.
Bohemian Rhapsody (12A) sold out for two nights last year. This foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, returns by popular demand on Thursday 30 July at 9pm.
A runaway success when it was first released, The Full Monty (15) has become a modern classic. The ultimate feelgood film tells the story of a group of unemployed Sheffield steelworkers who form a male striptease act to earn a living and regain their pride. The film has a great soundtrack and if it’s a chilly evening, you can leave your hat on. The showing is at 9pm on Friday 31 July.
One of last year’s favourite films, Rocketman (15) is an epic musical fantasy about the incredible story of Elton John’s breakthrough years in the 1970’s. Taron Egerton recently won a Golden Globe award for his performance as Elton, while the new song written for the movie, (I’m Gonna) Love Me Again by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, won Best Original Song at the Oscars at the weekend. Rocketman will be screened at 9pm on Saturday 1 August.
The final film showing is A Star is Born (15) at 9pm on Sunday 2 August. Seasoned musician Jackson Maine (Bradley Cooper) meets and falls in love with struggling singer-songwriter Ally (Lady Gaga). Jack coaxes Ally to follow her dreams while he battles with alcoholism and his personal demons.
The gates within the Craft Village open at 7pm, so bring a picnic and your friends and enjoy a full summer’s evening at Markeaton Park, with the film showing at sundown. If you don’t want to bring your own food, the Orangery Café will be serving hot and cold drinks, and themed cocktails during performances. Pizzas can be pre-ordered when you book your tickets.
You are welcome to bring your own alcohol, but no glass bottles or glasses please. The Craft Village is an area of hard-standing, so please bring a low-backed chair for your comfort. More information is available at derbylive.co.uk.
Tickets for all films are £13.50 and are available from derbylive.co.uk, via the Derby LIVE box office on 01332 255800, or in person at the Sales and Information Centre, Riverside Chambers, Full Street, Derby DE1 3AF.
