The August bank holiday is coming up soon and we've picked our top ten things for families to get up to in Derby!
1. Atlantis Splash Run
On Saturday 25 August kids and adults alike can take on the Atlantis Splash Run inflatable challenge at Queen’s Leisure Centre! From 2:30pm or 3:45pm families can come and play on the brand new inflatable, challenging each other to complete the course.
Markeaton Park’s outdoor tennis courts are the perfect place to spend a bank holiday, making the most of the sun and practising your tennis skills. The two tennis courts are available for bookings for 1 hour sessions. Book now!
The bank holiday is the perfect time to try something new, Footgolf is the latest craze that replaces a golf ball with a football and a club with a foot. Families and friends can try out footgolf on Markeaton Park’s 9 hole, 997 yard course.
4. Family Splash
Family Splash sessions are a great time for the whole family to enjoy the pool through a fun and easy going session with floats and pool toys. Family Splash sessions will be happening from 2 to 4pm on Saturday 25 August and 9am to 2:30pm on Sunday 26 August.
5. Dig on for Victory
Come along to Markeaton Park on Sunday 26 August to pay tribute to all who fought in the two World Wars with Dig on For Victory. Friends of Markeaton Park will be bringing history alive with lots of display stands both military and vintage, craft stalls, entertainment and lots more. This day promises to be a great, free day out for all the family!
6. Bark in the Park
In Darley Park from 11am to 3pm on Sunday 26 August families can enjoy the Bark in the Park Fun Dog Show. Raising money for Ashbourne Animal Welfare there will be dog show classes including Most Handsome Dog, Prettiest Bitch, Waggiest Tail, Best Puppy and many more!
7. Mundy Play Area
This August Bank Holiday all of Mundy Play Area’s pay and play activities will be open from 10:30am to 4:30pm, as well as the free play area and paddling pool kids can enjoy bouncy castles, crazy golf, canoes and much more over the August Bank Holiday!
8. Family Track Cycling
On Bank Holiday Monday families can feel the thrill of track cycling at Derby Arena with the Family Track Cycling session. Ages 9 and over can try out track cycling for the first time from 9:30 to 10:30am, with no need of experience families can try something new together this bank holiday.
9. Half price racket sports
On Bank Holiday Monday between 8am and 4pm Derby Arena is offering racket sports at half price. Table tennis or badminton courts can be booked in advance for half the usual price, a great chance to get back into sport! Book now by calling 01332 640011
10. The Hannells Darley Park Concert
After a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend don’t forget on Sunday 2 September to bring a picnic along to Darley Park for the The Hannells Darley Park Concert. Let the whole family enjoy the wonderful firework display after an evening of great music. The perfect way to end the summer, be part of one of the UK’s biggest outdoor classic concerts, in the stunning natural amphitheatre that is Darley Park.
